Process

Artisan made lampwork beads are used in many pieces of Sandra Smith’s jewelry.  Each bead is individually made by hand by lampwork beadmakers from all over the world and carefully chosen to include in bracelets or necklaces.

The process of making these beads involves painstaking precision. Glass is melted in a torch, melted around a mandrel, and then shaped and decorated with other glass, fine silver or gold, frits, and enamels – the possibilities are endless! The bead is then placed in a kiln where it is slowly cooled to anneal so it will enjoy a long life as part of your jewelry.

You will also find pieces that incorporate semi-precious stones, Austrian crystals, sterling silver, gold and gold-filled beads and findings. Precious stones and 14 and 18 kt gold are available in custom designs.
